Dodgers recall Fife for Monday start, place Crawford on DL

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed outfielder Carl Crawford on the 15-day disabled list Monday and recalled pitcher Stephen Fife from Triple-A Albuquerque to start against the San Diego Padres.

Fife was summoned from the Isotopes to start Monday's opener of a three-game set against San Diego in place of Chris Capuano, who's battling a left triceps cramp that forced him out of last Wednesday's meeting with the Los Angeles Angels.

The 26-year-old Fife, who made his major league debut with the Dodgers in 2012, started one game for Los Angeles this season and allowed four runs in 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision on April 21 at Baltimore before heading to the DL with right shoulder bursitis.

Crawford, meanwhile, was batting .301 with nine steals, five home runs and 13 RBI in 51 games this season before straining his left hamstring on Saturday against Colorado.

Crawford doubled to left in the third inning, but grabbed for his hamstring as he coasted into second. He was promptly removed from the contest and hasn't played since, making the move to the DL retroactive to June 2.
