Dodgers catcher Martin to miss 4-6 weeks

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Russell Martin will be sidelined for 4-6 weeks with a pulled groin and is expected to miss the opening day of the new season, the team reported on their website Sunday.

Martin was injured during a base-running drill earlier in the week but did not learn of the severity of the injury until being diagnosed by doctors.

"I was a little bit shocked," Martin told reporters. "It's not an injury where there's a lot of pain to it, but if you don't take care of it, it gets worse."

Dodgers manager Joe Torre has said that rookie A.J. Ellis would get the bulk of playing time in the absence of the 27-year-old, two-times All Star.
