Diamondbacks claim Manzella off waivers from Houston

The Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday A Reno.

The 28-year-old was hitting .230 with seven home runs, 14 doubles and 48 RBI in 109 games with Houston's Triple-A affiliate in Oklahoma City. Manzella appeared in 90 games with Houston in 2009 and '10, batting .224.

Manzella had been the Astros' 2010 Opening Day starter at shortstop, and hit .225 with one homer and 21 RBI in 83 games.

To make room on the roster, the D-Backs transferred pitcher Juan Gutierrez from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list. Gutierrez has been sidelined since late May with right shoulder inflammation.
