Montreal, QC (SportsNetwork.com) - The Montreal Impact put the brakes on a seven-match losing streak in league play on Saturday courtesy of a late strike from Marco Di Vaio to claim a 1-0 win over the Chicago Fire at Stade Saputo.

The Impact entered the match without any kind of result in league play since a 3-0 win over Houston on June 29, but Di Vaio's tally in the 84th minute held up as the difference and Montreal improved to 17 points from 23 matches played.

For Chicago, the defeat was just the club's fifth of the season, but the Fire remain in ninth place in the East with 25 points thanks to 13 drawn matches.

After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, the intensity picked up and Chicago's best chance of the game came just minutes into the second half as Jeff Larentowicz lined up a free kick from just outside the box. He struck it under the wall and on target, but straight into the waiting arms of Impact goalkeeper Evan Bush.

After squandering a couple quality chances, the Impact finally broke the deadlock with six minutes to play when Max Tissot sent a through ball down the left flank for rookie defender Eric Miller.

Miller got to the end line and squared it to the center of the penalty area. It took a deflection and landed kindly at the feet of Di Vaio, who calmly fired it home to give the Impact their fourth win of the campaign.
