Detroit Pistons 2013 Draft Report Card

Published January 13, 2015

The Detroit Pistons gushed, absolutely gushed over how much more effective Brandon Knight was as the shooting guard instead of the point guard.

So everyone with a brain and ears thought they'd go with a point guard at No. 8.

They, of course, pegged shooting guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. After Victor Oladipo, C.J. McCollum and Ben McLemore, Caldwell-Pope was the best wing guard.

Caldwell-Pope doesn't fit a need, but he was the best available player. He's a great shooter. Maybe they re-sign Jose Calderon to play the point, or move Knight back, but either way, they got a great prospect in Caldwell-Pope.

Mitchell was an interesting selection. Physically and solely based on talent, Mitchell is a first-round choice, no question. He hurt his stock when he admitted he didn't play hard last season at North Texas. If new coach Mo Cheeks can get something out of him, he's a steal.

Siva should make the team. He's tough, smart and a great passer. Oh wait, maybe he's the answer at point guard. At his size, with his shooting touch, he's not.

Grade: B
