Debuchy to miss three months with ankle injury

London, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Arsenal will be without defender Mathieu Debuchy for the next three months after the Frenchman required surgery to repair a left ankle injury.

Debuchy sustained the problem in Arsenal's 2-2 draw with Manchester City on Sept. 13, and manager Arsene Wenger said after the match that he was unsure of how serious the injury was.

But after tests, it was determined that Debuchy required surgery, which will keep him out of action for around three months.

"He has had surgery and will be out for three months," Wenger told the club's official website. "A reasonable delay is three months.

"It all went well, but it can be a week or two earlier or a week or two later, but it will be around three months."

The 29-year-old Debuchy joined Arsenal from Newcastle over the summer and he started four games for the Gunners before his injury.

Arsenal also signed 19-year-old Calum Chambers from Southampton, and he will take the place of Debuchy in the lineup until at least December.
