DCU acquires Rolfe from Fire

Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - D.C. United secured the services of veteran midfielder Chris Rolfe from the Chicago Fire on Wednesday in exchange for allocation money.

Rolfe spent seven years with the Fire, where he appeared in 178 regular-season matches for the club, netting 48 goals.

He was drafted by Chicago in the third round of the 2005 MLS SuperDraft and led the Fire in goals during the 2005 and 2008 campaigns before moving on to the Danish Superliga in January 2010 to play for Aalborg.

The 31-year-old returned to the Fire in April 2012 and won the team's MVP award that season after once again leading the team in scoring.

Rolfe has earned 10 caps for the United States national team and his arrival at United will help a team whose midfield is thin because of injuries to Chris Pontius and Luis Silva, who could reportedly miss up to a month because of an ankle injury suffered last weekend.
