D-backs' Evan Marshall shows off protective cap

PHOENIX -- The next step in Evan Marshall's return to the pitcher's mound is apparently complete.

Marshall, who suffered a fractured skull after being struck in the head by a line drive in early August while pitching for Triple-A Reno, tweeted out a photo Wednesday of him and his wife, Allie, modeling a protective cap.

Marshall was called up from Reno on Tuesday and placed on the 60-day disabled list. Although he stated his desire to return to pitching this season during a visit to Chase Field two weeks ago, the disabled list designation means he won't take the mound again in 2015. But he's apparently already gearing up for spring training.

Marshall underwent surgery to relieve fluid buildup on the brain at a hospital in El Paso immediately after being hit and is undergoing outpatient therapy at Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix.
