Cullen holds off Scott to win Aussie Masters

Victoria, Australia (SportsNetwork.com) - Nick Cullen closed with a 3-under 69 on Sunday and he held off Adam Scott to win the BetEasy Australian Masters by one stroke.

Cullen ended at 9-under-par 279 at Metropolitan Golf Club. This was his second victory on the PGA Tour Australasia.

Scott, who won this title the last two years, closed with a 4-under 68. He shared second place at minus-8 with Josh Younger (69) and James Nitties (70).

Cullen stumbled to a bogey at the first. He rebounded with an eagle on the par-5 fourth, then wrapped birdies at six and eight around a bogey on No. 7.

Around the turn, Cullen converted back-to-back birdies at 11 and 12 to move to 10-under. He faltered to a bogey at the 15th, before making three straight pars to close out the victory.

Scott has three birdies and a bogey from the fifth to the eighth. After tripping to another bogey at the 10th, Scott birdied the 12th, 14th and 17th to end at minus-8.

Younger birdied two of the last three holes to share second place, while Nitties birdied the 12th to move to 8-under before he closed with six consecutive pars.

Third-round leader Paul Spargo struggled to a 1-over 73. That left him tied for fifth at 7-under-par 281. He ended alongside Matthew Griffin, Aron Price and Adam Bland, who all shot 3-under 69 in the final round.

Robert Allenby (68) shared ninth place at minus-6, Boo Weekly (70) tied for 15th at 4-under 284 and Geoff Ogilvy (75) dropped to minus-2, which left him tied for 25th.
