Cowboys TE Witten to play against Giants

Published November 20, 2014

Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten played Wednesday night's regular-season opener against the New York Giants after being cleared by doctors with a spleen injury.

Witten missed the final three preseason games because of lacerated spleen he suffered while taking a hit during Dallas' preseason opener against the Oakland Raiders on Aug. 13.

He was initially listed as doubtful for the contest, but made the start and finished with two receptions for 10 yards.

The seven-time Pro Bowl selection has been extremely durable during his nine- year career in Dallas, missing just one game during his rookie season in 2003 when he suffered a broken jaw.

Witten has caught 696 passes for 7,909 yards and 41 touchdowns over 143 games, all but 10 of which have been starts, with the Cowboys.
