Colts reach deal with OLB Ayers, finalize practice squad

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) The Indianapolis Colts agreed to terms on a contract with outside linebacker Akeem Ayers on Tuesday.

Ayers was Tennessee's second-round selection in 2011 but was cut Sunday by the Los Angeles Rams. He's made 57 career starts and enters this season with 13 1/2 sacks, three interceptions and 337 tackles in 75 career games.

To make room on the 53-man roster, the Colts waived cornerback Neiko Thorpe, who signed with the Colts on Monday.

Indianapolis also signed cornerback Frankie Williams to the practice squad. Williams was on the original active roster after Saturday's deadline, but was released Monday.
