Cologne president Overath to step down in 2013

Cologne president Wolfgang Overath announced on Friday that he intends to step down from his role in 2013.

Overath took over as club president in June 2004, with his current term set to last another 18 months.

However, the 1974 World Cup-winner told the Bild newspaper that he doesn't plan to seek re-election.

"I think then it will be time for somebody younger to take over," Overath said. "I have been doing this for nearly seven years now and I think that, when I am 70, I want a normal life back.

"There are still one and a half years until 2013 and that is a long time, but then that should be the end."

Overath has helped lead Cologne back into the Bundesliga, but the club has gone through seven coaches since returning to the top flight, and currently sits in 11th place in the league.
