Chiefs punt returner Dexter McCluster questionable vs Oakland with infection in ankle

Published January 13, 2015

Associated Press

Chiefs wide receiver Dexter McCluster is questionable for Sunday's game at Oakland after a small cut on his ankle turned into an infection after last week's game against Washington.

Chiefs trainer Rick Burkholder says an MRI exam and X-rays on the ankle showed no structural damage. Swabs taken on the infection site have not been fully analyzed.

Burkholder says "the big question is does he have MRSA, and we don't know that yet."

MRSA is a potentially deadly strain of staph infection that recently generated headlines when an infection hit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' locker room this season.

McCluster had a minor procedure to open and clean the wound, and he's being treated with antibiotics. He has not officially been ruled out against the Raiders.
