Kansas City, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Donnie Avery will not play this weekend following sports hernia surgery, the team announced Thursday.

Avery was injured in the fourth quarter of Monday's 41-14 win over the Patriots. He is set to undergo surgery in Philadelphia on Friday and will not be with the Chiefs as they take on San Francisco in Week 5.

Avery, who has 14 catches for 156 yards in four games this season, is expected to miss at least four weeks.

Former 49er A.J. Jenkins is expected to start in his place on Sunday.
