Chargers DT Sean Lissemore limited in practice but may play opener

Published February 05, 2015

Associated Press

Chargers defensive tackle Sean Lissemore was limited in Friday's practice as he recovers from a sprained right ankle but indications are he will play in the season-opener against the Arizona Cardinals on Monday night.

"I'm just working to get my ankle good," Lissemore said. "That is what I'm concerned about right now."

Lissemore was injured Aug. 15 against the Seattle Seahawks and hasn't played in a game since.

He's the anchor of the Chargers' 3-4 alignment, taking on blockers to free up inside linebackers Donald Butler and Manti Te'o. What makes Lissemore's availability so critical is the lack of depth behind him.

Kwame Geathers, Lissemore's backup, suffered a season-ending knee injury during the preseason. Next up is Ryan Carrethers, a fifth-round pick out of Arkansas State.
