Cavaliers announce Marion signing

Cleveland, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - The Cleveland Cavaliers said Tuesday they have signed free-agent forward Shawn Marion.

The announcement came over three weeks after Marion reportedly informed the Cavaliers he intended to sign with them.

The team did not release terms of the deal, though it was reported last month the Cavs only had the veteran's minimum of $1.4 million available to sign him.

Marion is the latest addition for the Cavs, who have also signed LeBron James, Mike Miller and James Jones this offseason and traded No. 1 draft picks Andrew Wiggins and Anthony Bennett to Minnesota for star forward Kevin Love.

Cavs general manager David Griffin said in a statement that Marion "brings great versatility, talent and championship experience to the team."

"He will impact both ends of the floor and his ability to guard multiple positions will be particularly important for us," Griffin said. "Shawn is an accomplished, high-caliber veteran that will help with leadership on and off the court and we're very happy to welcome him to the Cavaliers family."

Marion, 36, said in a statement he was "excited" to join the team and, "I can see the hunger and mentality of everyone in the organization and l look forward to being a part of it. The goal is to win a championship and that's what I want."

The 15-year NBA veteran averaged 10.4 points and 6.5 rebounds in 76 games last season for the Dallas Mavericks. He has averaged 15.8 points and 9.0 rebounds in 1,106 career games for Phoenix, Miami, Toronto and Dallas.

He has also averaged 14.7 points and 9.1 rebounds in 103 playoff games and won an NBA title in 2011 with Dallas.
