CAS aims for April verdict in bin Hammam-FIFA case

Published November 20, 2014

Associated Press

The Court of Arbitration for Sport will aim for a verdict in April in Mohamed bin Hammam's appeal to overturn his soccer life ban because of alleged vote bribery.

Bin Hammam will challenge FIFA's ruling to expel him April 18-19 at CAS in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The court says "the parties have requested a final decision ... as soon as possible."

The Asian Football Confederation is legally obliged to elect a new president replacing bin Hammam if his case is not resolved by May 29.

CAS says its judging panel "has not excluded the possibility to deliver a decision without grounds" later in April.

Bin Hammam denies he attempted to bribe Caribbean voters during his election challenge to FIFA President Sepp Blatter.
