The St. Louis Cardinals traded utility infielder Skip Schumaker to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for minor league shortstop Jake Lemmerman.

The 32-year-old Schumaker had spent his entire eight-year career in St. Louis and batted .276 with one homer and 28 RBI in 107 games last season.

In 810 big league games, Schumaker has a .288 average with 23 home runs and 211 RBI. He also provides defensive versatility, having played 412 games at second base and 389 games at various outfield spots.

The California native also has a .278 average with three home runs and six RBI in 22 postseason games.

"On behalf of the entire Cardinals' organization, I want to thank Skip for his professionalism and many contributions to our ball club during his 12-year association," St. Louis vice president/general manager John Mozeliak said. "Skip helped provide many great memories for Cardinals fans and we wish he and his family all the best with the Dodgers."

Lemmerman, 23, hit .233 with seven homers and 46 RBI in 116 games for Double-A Chattanooga last year.
