Cardinals, Palmer agree to 3-year extension

Tempe, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - The Arizona Cardinals on Friday signed quarterback Carson Palmer to a three-year contract extension.

No financial terms were disclosed, but CBSSports.com reported that the former USC product stands to make $50 million from the new pact.

"Carson has played at an incredibly high level and has been a huge part of the team's success," said Cards general manager Steve Keim. "When you combine his on-field performance with the leadership, stability and professionalism he brings to our team, there was no question that we wanted to extend the relationship and we are excited he felt the same way."

Palmer, who was scheduled to become a free agent at the end of the season, has led the Cards to their best eight-game record (7-1) since 1974 when the team was based in St. Louis. Since arriving from Oakland prior to the start of last season, he has compiled a 15-6 mark as starter, best in modern franchise history.

In five games this season, he has completed 116-of-188 passes for 1,385 yards, 11 touchdowns and two interceptions for a passer rating of 99.3.

The two-time Pro Bowl selection has thrown for 35,124 yards, 224 TDs and 154 interceptions in 143 games for the Bengals, Raiders and Cardinals.
