VANCOUVER (Reuters) - Canada's Charles Hamelin won Olympic gold in the men's short track 500 meters on Friday after avoiding a last-corner collision caused by 2006 champion Apolo Anton Ohno.

South Korea's Sung Si-bak took the silver despite crashing into the barrier after being knocked over, while Canada's Francois-Louis Tremblay picked up the bronze.

Hamelin made up for the blanks he drew in the 1,000 and 1,500 and celebrated by kissing his girlfriend Marianne St Gelais, who won a short track silver in the women's event over the same distance earlier in the Games.

American Ohno, who was disqualified, had been going for his third medal of these Games and his eighth in three Olympics.
