Shona Thorburn poured in a game-high 18 points to lead Canada past Great Britain, 73-65, in the women's basketball tournament.

Courtnay Pilypaitis and Kim Smith donated 11 points apiece for the Canadians, who lost to Russia in their opening game on Saturday.

Natalie Stafford and Johannah Leedham each tallied 15 points for Great Britain, which has dropped its first two games in front of its home crowd after losing to Australia on Saturday.

Trailing 55-53 after three quarters, Great Britain opened the fourth with an 8-2 surge to take a 61-57 advantage.

The Canadians responded with a run of their own however, scoring the next nine points to build a 66-61 edge they would not relinquish as Thorburn buried 3- of-4 free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

Canada will face France on Wednesday, while Great Britain looks for its first win of the tournament against Russia on Wednesday.
