California, Arizona get first big test of the season in both team's Pac-12 opener

Published February 05, 2015

California has made some big strides in its second season under coach Sonny Dykes, already doubling last year's win total.

Next up for the Bears is a big test: Arizona and its high-flying offense Saturday night in the desert.

Cal went 1-11 last season, its first since Dykes was hired away from Louisiana Tech. The Bears have gotten this season off to a solid start, knocking off Northwestern on the road and rolling over lower-division Sacramento State.

Arizona will be a huge step up in competition, though.

The Wildcats have had one of the nation's most explosives offenses in three seasons under coach Rich Rodriguez and the eighth in total offense this year at 582.7 yards per game.
