Bryans reach fifth U.S. Open doubles final

Olympic gold medalists Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan will play for a fourth U.S. Open title on Friday.

The second-seeded American twin brothers handled a ninth-seeded tandem of Pakistan's Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi and Jean-Julien Rojer of Netherlands Antilles 6-3, 6-4 in a Thursday semifinal at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

The Bryans' opponent in the championship match will be a fifth-seeded duo Indian Leander Paes and Czech Radek Stepanek, who were tied with a sixth- seeded Spanish pairing of Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez at 6-6 in the first set when Lopez was forced to retire with a leg injury.

Paes and Stepanek beat the Bryans in the Australian Open finale back in January.

The 34-year-old Bryans captured U.S. Open titles in 2005, 2008 and 2010 and were the runners-up in 2003. They own 11 Grand Slam doubles titles overall, but have yet to capture a major this year, having finished as runners-up at the Aussie and French Opens.

The 39-year-old Paes owns seven major doubles titles, including U.S. Open ones in 2006 and 2009, while the 33-year-old Stepanek is seeking his second Grand Slam doubles victory.

Friday's winning team will split $420,000.
