Former Bayern Munich defender Breno has been found guilty of arson and will spend nearly four years in prison.

The 22-year-old was found guilty of deliberately starting the fire which destroyed his home in Munich last September, and he received a prison sentence of three years and nine months on Wednesday.

Breno was released by Bayern Munich at the end of this past season and was reported to have agreed to terms with Italian side Lazio prior to his conviction.

"Our hope was that Breno would have been able to continue his career as a footballer and, consequently, his life together with his family," read a statement from Bayern Munich. "FC Bayern will continue to support Breno."
