Brees says Payton, Vitt, Loomis deserve credit for his records, should be

Published November 20, 2014

Associated Press

Drew Brees says Sean Payton, Mickey Loomis and Joe Vitt all played an important role in putting him in position to break Johnny Unitas' half-century-old record for consecutive games with a touchdown pass. They deserve a chance to be in the Superdome if it happens Sunday night.

Brees says he appreciates NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell's decision to allow Payton, Loomis and Vitt, who are all serving various suspensions in connection with the league's bounty investigation, to attend the game if they wish.

Brees says he hopes they'll all come. The NFL says the three men may watch in a private area, but may not have contact with the team.

If Brees throws a touchdown pass against San Diego, it will be the 48th straight game he's done so.
