Bouchard wins, Wozniacki rallies in New Haven

New Haven, CT (SportsNetwork.com) - Wimbledon runner-up Eugenie Bouchard and four-time champion Caroline Wozniacki were first-round winners Monday at the Connecticut Open tennis event, a final U.S. Open tune-up.

Bouchard, the third-seeded Canadian star, eased past Serb Bojana Jovanovski 6-1, 6-1 in 52 minutes on the hardcourts at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale.

Next up for Bouchard will be wild card and 2011 U.S. Open champion Samantha Stosur, who held off Japan's Kurumi Nara 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (10-12), 6-2 on Day 2.

The former world No. 1 Wozniacki, who claimed four straight New Haven titles from 2008-2011, rallied to beat Swiss qualifier Timea Bacsinszky, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Fifth seed Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia was beaten by German wildcard Andrea Petkovic, 7-6 (7-2), 6-3.

Promising Spaniard Garbine Muguruza upended seventh-seeded former French Open runner-up Sara Errani of Italy 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.

Also advancing were Slovak Magdalena Rybarikova, Czech Barbora Zahlavova Strycova, France's Caroline Garcia, Chinese qualifier Peng Shuai, and Belgian wild card Kirsten Flipkens.

Romanian Simona Halep beat 2012 titlist Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic in last year's final. Halep and Kvitova are this week's top seeds.

Halep will open her week against Rybarikova.
