Boise State QB Joe Southwick notches best game of the season

Published November 20, 2014

Associated Press

Joe Southwick finally showed the kind of productive and efficient quarterback Boise State coaches thought he could be when they named him Kellen Moore's replacement this fall.

After three games of blown touchdown chances and red zone meltdowns, Southwick delivered Saturday in a 32-29 victory at new Mexico.

The redshirt junior threw for a career-high 311 yards and three touchdowns. He spread the ball around to eight different receivers and helped the offense convert on seven of 10 third downs.

He says the challenge now is keeping perspective — not getting too high on good days or too low after bad games.

The win wasn't enough to prevent the Broncos (3-1) from dropping out of the Top 25 after holding at No. 24 for the last two weeks.
