Blue Jays send struggling pitcher Drabek to minors

TORONTO (Reuters) - Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Kyle Drabek was demoted to the minors two days after the right-hander was roughed up in a game against the Boston Red Sox, the Major League Baseball team said on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old rookie, a key player in the trade that sent Roy Halladay to the Philadelphia Phillies in 2010, was sent to triple-A Las Vegas of the Pacific Coast League after going 4-5 with a 5.70 earned-run average in 14 starts this season.

He allowed eight earned runs, including three homers, on seven hits in only four innings during Toronto's 14-1 loss to the Red Sox on Sunday.

The Blue Jays said they recalled 24-year-old right-handed pitcher Zach Stewart from double-A New Hampshire of the Eastern League to replace Drabek. Stewart is 4-3 record with a 4.39 ERA in 12 starts for New Hampshire this season.
