Big East and Madison Square Garden extend contract for postseason tournament

Published November 20, 2014

Associated Press

The Big East and Madison Square Garden have agreed to a multiyear extension of their contract that will keep the conference's postseason tournament in New York City.

Madison Square Garden has been the home of the Big East tournament since 1983, making it the longest running conference tournament held at the same site in college basketball.

No details of the extension, which was announced Wednesday, was given.

Since moving to the Garden in 1983, more than 3.3 million fans have attended the tournament, including the last seven, which have been advance sellouts.

Louisville won the tournament last season. This season's tournament will be held March 12-16.
