The Chicago Bears terminated the contract of tight end Matt Spaeth, the team announced on Wednesday.

Spaeth started eight of the 16 games he appeared in last season, catching six passes for 28 yards and a touchdown. Over two seasons with Chicago, the 29- year-old had 13 catches for 78 yards and three touchdowns.

Spaeth, who spent the first four years of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, has 49 career catches for 353 yards and eight touchdowns.

The Bears had previously released Kellen Davis, the team's No. 1 tight end last season, earlier on Wednesday, one day after signing ex-New York Giant Martellus Bennett to a four-year contract at the onset of free agency.
