Baylor QB Bryce Petty wins inaugural Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award in Texas

Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty has won the inaugural Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award that recognizes the top Division I offensive player with Texas ties.

The award was presented Friday night at a ceremony in Tyler, the hometown of former Heisman Trophy winner Campbell.

Petty accounted for 4,409 total yards and 46 yards in his first season as the starter at Baylor (11-2), which was the Big 12 champion and went to its first Bowl Championship Series game. The fourth-year junior waited his turn behind Heisman winner Robert Griffin III and record-setting quarterback Nick Florence.

The other finalists were Texas Tech tight end Jace Amaro, Texas A&M receiver Mike Evans, Aggies quarterback Johnny Manziel and Missouri quarterback James Franklin, who is from Corinth Texas.
