Bayern's Gustavo undergoes groin surgery

Bayern Munich midfielder Luiz Gustavo is unlikely to return to action until January after the Brazilian underwent a groin operation on Monday.

The 25-year-old has only five weeks before the Bundesliga goes on its winter break, and he is unlikely to take part in any of Bayern's matches before January, despite the club having a busy fixture list the rest of the year.

Gustavo made the move to Bayern from Hoffenheim last season and has established himself as a key man in the Bayern midfield.

Despite the arrival of big-money signing Javi Martinez over the summer, Gustavo has been picked ahead of the former Athletic Bilbao man most of the time in league play, notching three goals in nine matches, including eight starts.
