Baup named new manager of Marseille

Marseille presented Elie Baup as its new manager on Thursday, as the former Bordeaux, Nantes, St. Etienne and Toulouse manager returned to the sideline following a three-year hiatus.

The 57-year-old was named the French club's new manager after Didier Deschamps stepped down with two years left on his contract. Deschamps is a candidate to become new France national team coach.

Baup had his most successful season as coach in 1999, when he led Bordeaux to the Ligue 1 title. He last coached Nantes in 2008-09.

He signed a two-year contract with Bordeaux.
