Bad day for British in badminton

The last two home hopes were knocked out of the badminton tournament Tuesday and a third British player was penalized for taking too long with her drink.

Rajiv Ouseph was eliminated from men's singles after a 21-12, 17-21, 19-21 loss to Guatemala's Kevin Cordon and Susan Egelstaff exited the women's draw following a 21-18, 16-21, 12-21 defeat to Sayaka Sato of Japan.

In mixed doubles, Great Britain's Imogen Bankier received a yellow card for being too slow taking a drink. She and Chris Adcock, already eliminated from moving on, lost to Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei of China.

Also Tuesday, the youngest player in the tournament, 17-year-old Intanon Ratchanok of Thailand lost.
