Meanwhile, the fifth-seeded Goerges battled back to beat Belgian qualifier Kirsten Flipkens, 1-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Goerges, who reached the final in Dubai in February, is aiming for her third career title after posting wins in Stuttgart last year and Bad Gastein in 2010.
Azarenka is 3-1 lifetime against Goerges.
