Australia's Olympic swimmer Schipper recovers after surgery

Published November 20, 2014

Associated Press

Swimming Australia says Olympic gold medalist Jess Schipper is still on track for the London Games despite undergoing emergency surgery on an ovarian cyst.

The 25-year-old Schipper is expected to spend the next two weeks out of the pool after being rushed to the hospital complaining of severe abdominal pain.

Initially it was thought she was suffering appendicitis before doctors found the pain was the result of a bleeding cyst, and operated on Monday night.

Schipper, who won gold medals in the 4x100 medley relay in Athens and Beijing, is expected to be fit for upcoming meets ahead of the London Olympics.
