Atalanta extended their unbeaten run to four matches in Serie A after edging to a 1-0 victory at Empoli.

Brazilian centre-back Rafael Toloi scored the only goal of the game just after the half hour, with the 24-year-old former Roma defender converting from Maximiliano Moralez's corner.

The hosts were unable to break down the Atalanta defence thereafter as the Nerazzurri claimed their second victory in the league, while they have not been beaten since losing to Inter Milan on the opening day of the season.

Defeat is a setback for Empoli, who had claimed their first win of the campaign at Udinese last weekend, and Marco Giampaolo's men are now on four points from as many games.

Empoli remained one point above the relegation zone. Atalanta moved level ninth with Roma, seven points behind leader Inter Milan.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
