Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - The Houston Astros placed outfielder Dexter Fowler on the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday due to a strained right intercostal.

The move is retroactive to June 27.

Fowler, 28, has missed the last four games due to the injury. In his first season with Houston, Fowler has hit .270 with six home runs and 24 RBI.

The Astros also designated pitcher Jerome Williams for assignment on Tuesday.

Williams, 32, made 26 appearances for the Astros this season, going 1-4 with a 6.04 ERA. In 47 2/3 innings in relief he allowed 59 hits, walked 16 and struck out only 38.

To fill the vacated roster spots, plus the spot of shortstop Jonathan Villar, who was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City after Monday's game, the Astros called up left-handed pitcher Kevin Chapman, infielder Kike Hernandez and outfielder Domingo Santana from OKC.

Santana, 21, one of the Astros' top prospects has hit .304 with 22 doubles, 13 home runs, 52 RBI and a .383 on-base percentage in 84 games with OKC this season.
