Army says no booster cash was used in recruiting gaffe that led to minor NCAA violations

West Point officials say no booster funds were used on a football recruiting outing in January that resulted in the academy self-reporting NCAA violations and disciplining 20 cadets.

Academy superintendent Lt. Gen. Robert L. Caslen, Jr. says in a statement on the school website that cadet host funds were distributed according to NCAA regulations, but the handling of those funds resulted in NCAA violations.

Caslen also says the charter bus used was escorted by a single New York state police officer in compliance with state law and that no military police escort was ever utilized.

First-year football coach Jeff Monken is expected to address the violations at a press conference on Tuesday.

The Gazette of Colorado Springs first reported last week that cadets, officers and coaches were disciplined for their involvement in a bus trip where underage recruits were allowed to drink alcohol.
