Appalachian State tops College of Charleston 85-70

Donald Sims scored 32 points and Appalachian State ended College of Charleston's seven-game winning streak with an 85-70 victory Thursday night.

The Mountaineers (14-14, 9-8 Southern Conference) won their second in a row and their sixth in the last seven games by shooting 50 percent from the field (32 of 64) and outrebounding the Cougars 38-29.

The Cougars (22-8, 14-3), who had clinched the conference's South Division title Monday by routing Samford, were led by Andrew Goudelock's 23 points. But they couldn't stop Appalachian State in the second half, when the Mountaineers shot 63.3 percent (19 of 30) and scored 48 points to pull away from a 37-37 halftime tie.

Sims made 6 of 9 from 3-point range to lead the Mountaineers, who made 11 of 23 overall. Jeremi Booth, who hit three 3-pointers, had 14 points and Omar Carter added 13 points for the Mountaineers.
