Angels sign top pick Newcomb

Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim agreed to terms with their 2014 first-round pick, pitcher Sean Newcomb, on Friday.

Newcomb, 21, was the 15th overall pick of the draft out of the University of Hartford.

He posted an 8-2 mark with a 1.25 earned run average and 106 strikeouts this past season with Hartford, nabbing America East Conference Pitcher of the Year honors.

The Angels agreed to terms with 35 of their 40 draft picks, including all of their top-10 selections, at the close of Friday's signing deadline.
