Andriy Gusin, a former midfielder who helped Ukraine reach World Cup quarterfinals, dies at 41

Andriy Gusin, a former Ukraine midfielder who helped his country reach the 2006 World Cup quarterfinals, has died, the Ukrainian football federation said Wednesday. He was 41.

Gusin made 71 appearances for Ukraine, including in all five matches at the World Cup in Germany.

According to local reports, Gusin was killed when he fell off a motorbike while riding at a race track near Kiev.

The federation expressed it "sincere condolences for the untimely death of prominent Ukrainian footballer Andriy Gusin."

Gusin won seven Ukrainian league titles with Dynamo Kiev between 1997 and 2004 and later played in Russia before moving into coaching.
