Adrian Peterson works the rust off, starts to find highest gear as season reaches 2nd quarter

Published November 20, 2014

Associated Press

Adrian Peterson spent the first three weeks of the season looking for that highest gear while coming back from knee surgery.

It looks like he found it on Sunday against the Detroit Lions.

Peterson rushed for 102 yards in Minnesota's 20-13 victory in Detroit that moved the Vikings to a surprising 3-1 this season. It's the first time that Peterson has topped 100 yards in a game since last October and marked his full return from reconstructive surgery on his left knee.

Peterson ran well in the first three games of the season. But he really started showing the explosion and acceleration that made him the league's best running back against the Lions.

Peterson says he can feel himself getting stronger and more back to normal each week.
