A-Rod apologizes to Yankees' brass

Bronx, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Alex Rodriguez met with New York Yankees ownership and other team officials Tuesday and offered an apology for his actions over the past few years.

A joint statement was released after the meeting, which included Yankees general partner Hal Steinbrenner, president Randy Levine, general manager Brian Cashman, assistant GM Jean Afterman, Rodriguez and his attorney, Jim Sharp.

"Alex initiated the meeting and apologized to the organization for his actions over the past several years," the statement read. "There was an honest and frank discussion on all of the issues. As far as the Yankees are concerned, the next step is to play baseball in spring training."

Rodriguez is set to return for the upcoming season after sitting out all of 2014 as part of a Major League Baseball suspension for his role in the Biogenesis scandal.

The 39-year-old slugger still has three years remaining on his contract.

Position players are scheduled to report to spring training in Tampa, Florida on Feb. 25.
