49ers put Bowman on reserve/PUP list

Santa Clara, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - All-Pro linebacker NaVorro Bowman was officially placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list by the San Francisco 49ers as the team pared down its active roster to 75 players on Monday.

Bowman is recovering from a torn ACL in his left knee sustained during San Francisco's loss to Seattle in the NFC Championship Game back in January. By beginning the regular season on the PUP list, the two-time Pro Bowl selection will have to miss at least the first six games before being eligible to be activated.

Tight end Garrett Celek and defensive tackle Kaleb Ramsey were also moved to reserve/PUP, with running back Marcus Lattimore one of four 49ers sent to the reserve/non-football injury list.

Lattimore, a fourth-round selection of San Francisco in the 2013 draft, has yet to play in an NFL game due to a devastating injury to his right knee that occurred during his college career at South Carolina in October of 2012. The 22-year-old spent his entire rookie season on the NFI list.

Additionally, the 49ers released wide receiver/kick returner David Reed and waived quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson, safety D.J. Campbell, tight end Kevin Greene, running back Jewel Hampton, punter Colton Schmidt, linebacker Kion Wilson and wide receiver Devon Wylie.
