One year after President Obama decided to bailout two of the big three U.S. auto companies, he heads to Michigan for a victory lap of some sorts. White House officials say the $60 billion given to the auto industry helped saved 1.1 million jobs that would have otherwise been lost. Mr. Obama will be visiting two auto manufacturing plants in Detroit and Hamtramck, Michigan. Some auto plants have been adding worker shifts to the schedule and auto companies are showing a first quarter profit for the first time in a decade. All of which the Obama administration hopes to take credit for during the November elections. White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told Fox and Friends Friday morning "if the President hadn't made some of those decisions, their jobs would have left town."
But Detroit is a rather unusual geographic area for the President to boast about job creation because the industrial city has one of the highest unemployment rates (14.3%) in the nation.
Row 2, Seat will stream the President's Detroit auto plant remarks live. Please tune into Friday's Special Report with Bret Baier for more on the President's trip to the heart of the auto industry.
