Virginia prosecutors form committee to improve system

Published December 20, 2015

Associated Press

Prosecutors in Virginia have launched an initiative to examine how they do their jobs and to improve the justice system.

The Virginia Association of Commonwealth's Attorneys formed a best practices panel called the Committee on Justice and Professionalism in March.

Arlington County commonwealth's attorney Theo Stamos is the committee's co-chair. She tells the Richmond Times-Dispatch that the goal is to ensure that prosecutors are doing things the right way.

Stamos says the committee plans to look at emerging issues, such as the use of police body cameras.

Richmond commonwealth's attorney Michael N. Herring says the committee will provide an opportunity for commonwealth's attorneys to discuss how they do their jobs candidly and critically.
