U.S. jet crashes in England, pilot reportedly dead

A Marine Corps F/A-18 Hornet crashed in England early Wednesday morning, according to a service release.

Cambridgeshire Police told BBC News that the pilot has died.

The single-seat fighter jet belonged to Marine Attack Fighter Squadron 232, according to a release from Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California. It crashed at 5:30 a.m. near Royal Air Force Lakenheath in England.

The incident is under investigation, according to the Marine Corps release.
