Assuming Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan makes it out of the Senate Judiciary Committee hearings this week --which is a strong likelihood -- the Senate is targeting the first week of August for debate and a confirmation vote.
This means her confirmation would be wrapped up before senators head off for their month-long recess, according to Jim Manley, senior spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-NV.
Ironically, this would mirror the time table last year by which Sonia Sotomayor was confirmed.
