Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius addressed the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) Thursday in Washington, and spoke of what she called a key role the media plays to, "Shine a light on what's going on and to really spread the call for a change to be made" in health care coverage.
One day after President Obama declared the time was now to act on comprehensive health care reform, she told the journalists that those in minority groups were much more likely to be segregated out of the health insurance affordable market place, and pointed to chronic diseases that are much more prevalent in both Hispanic and African American communities as a reason.
The secretary added, "We've done a lot of documentation, but not a lot to close the gap" regarding health care coverage.
She finished her remarks, telling the group, "The good news is health and human Services are back, we believe in health and human services, and we want to make sure all Americans have access to high quality health care."
